I object to your description of Thursday's event as a "Debate between Left and Right." To the extent that these terms have any modern utility, I reside firmly on the left of the political spectrum. I am proud of my participation in the Tidewater Labor Support Committee, my experience as a union organizer and researcher, and my presence at any number of demonstrations against war and inequality. I also advocate the return of the Wren Cross and was an early signer of your petition.

Please do not assume that all of us who share your perspective on this particular controversy also share your broad neoconservative agenda, something which has little to do with the historic "Right." I assure you that many of us do not. In fact, some of us applaud Nichol for his implementation of the Gateway William and Mary program, his affiliation of the College with the Worker Rights Consortium, and his ouster of Henry Kissinger from the chancellorship.
